The location of the Retirement home in Markuševec is along the Štefanovec Street. The plot is irregular in shape, covering the surface of 4,019 m2, and the terrain rises eastward from the street. The home is designed as a detached building with a total of three floors, one of which is underground (Po) and two above ground (ground floor and 1st floor). The building occupies the central part of the building plot, and consists of two wings that enclose an inner courtyard. All accommodation units face south, to receive as much natural light as possible.
There is a parking lot with 21 parking spaces in the southern part of the plot, two of which are designated for people with disabilities. Commercial road that also serves as access for ambulance vehicles, hearses and waste collection trucks runs along the northwestern edge of the plot. Next to the commercial road, there is a niche that houses separate waste collection containers. The main pedestrian access is on the west side, i.e. from Štefanovec Street, and is accentuated by the cantilevered projection of the home’s south wing.
Due to terrain configuration, the underground floor is also the entrance floor. It is slightly higher both to make the building as elevated as possible and because it contains common areas such as: restaurant, shop, general practitioner’s office, hairdresser, chapel, etc. To avoid the negative effect of a dug-in space, this floor has a green atrium and a bright entrance area. The underground floor also holds: a fully functional kitchen with a kitchen elevator for vertical food traffic to above-ground floors, storage facilities, a 70 m2 laundry room and various technical rooms. There is also a complex for patients suffering from Alzheimer's dementia and requiring the 4th level of service, with the capacity of 12 beneficiaries.
The ground floor contains accommodation units for persons requiring the 1st and 2nd levels of service, with the total capacity of 41 beneficiaries (21 1st level beneficiaries and 20 2nd level beneficiaries). There are also administrative offices and living room with a kitchenette. The common areas offer a view of mount Medvednica, the park and the church.
1st floor premises are used for the accommodation of persons requiring the 3rd level of service and have the total capacity of 39 users. The descent to lower floors is solved by cascading vegetation running along a mild staircase. In addition, the 1st floor also contains rooms for occupational and physical therapy, premises for the medical staff, library and reading room.
