It was erected in 15th century in the Late Gothic style, the so-called Bohemian Vladislav Gothic. After the liberation of Slavonia from the Ottomans, the church was restored by the Franciscans by the end of the 17th century. It represents a place for worshippers from all over Slavonia. During the Second War it was seriously damaged, it was left without the roof, so that it was renovated in the period from 1971 to 1984. In the year of 1991, during the Croatian War of Independence, it was reduced to rubble.
The devastated church has been rebuilt in its original form, due to monumental and other values it possesses in its natural environment. The reconstruction has been planned in the way to structure a replica of the earlier church, while using its existing and fortified foundation, and since we are dealing with the Gothic period, the skills of traditional bricklayers, stonemasons, carpenters and other craftsmen have been applied, in accordance with the conservation and restoration instruction and under supervision of the Heritage Authority.
